R!G Submission Guidelines
Reviews:
R!OTgamer accepts reviews of any game on any console, including computer games. These reviews follow a fairly standard review format with the addition of a "Feminist Critique" or the FC. Here are the rough guidelines:
Standard review portion:
Describe different aspects of the game in as much or as little detail as you want; we want reviews of both feature length and blip-length so the length is pretty flexible. We would like for the review to include a description of some of the following elements:
Overall plot – character development, interaction, general storytelling quality, etc
Overall game play – ease or difficulty of controls, including camera controls, camera angles, etc
Overall design – graphics, sound effects, soundtrack, etc
Replay – would you want to play it again?
Fun - is it?
You may find different areas more or less important. So, by all means, be creative – we want your voice to come through.
Feminist Critique:
This is the unique feature of R!OTgamer reviews. And feminist here is not just about gender or women. The aim here at R!G is to support and encourage a more inclusive view of gaming and the gaming industry from all angles. This means that we want to know how the game portrays or excludes women and men, gender roles, GLBTQ, people of color, etc. How does the game hold up in regards to inclusivity? Who might it leave out? How does it stereotype? How might people of various populations react? How could it improve? These are the types of questions we hope to answer in this section. If you have any questions about how to address these issues, feel free to ask.
Rating the game:
Rate the game on a scale of 1 to 5 on the following: Overall game-play; story; and graphics.
And, of course, a feminist friendly rating.
Articles:
We are always looking for articles on gaming and feminism related topics. If you have an idea for an article you would like to write or an issue you want to explore, let us know. We’ll let you know if we can use it. Since “related” is relative, chances are if you feel it’s relevant, so will we!
Interviews:
In addition to topic articles, we are also on the lookout for relevant interviews. If there is someone you’re interested in interviewing for a piece, just let us know who and why.
FanArt/FanFiction:
We want your feministic fanart and fanfiction, too! We’re truly looking for a wide range of voices, ideas, visions, etc – diversity in all things. If you have a piece you’d like us to consider or an idea you think we’d like just send it our way.
**For all submissions R!OTgamer publishes, credit will, of course, be given to the author/artist. Just let us know with your submission the name that you want us to use. We will be able to give riotgamer.org email addresses after an accepted submission. However, emails will be cancelled if, after 2 months, no submission has been made. We greatly appreciate your time and efforts!!
