Top 10 Boobies in Video Games: Feminists proven right

I hardly think that I should have to say anything about this, but, I think it quite succinctly proves feminists right about sexism in video games (plus they're all white boobies).

Somehow I doubt they're trying to make feminist statement, though.

Wow...that is really pathetic. Remember we must have some empathy for men. They are being socialized to be assholes AND...whoever compiled that and whoever actually watched that in seriousness are never going to see a set of boobies in real life anyway.

That's so disgusting. Really guys? Are you twenty or twelve? Geez.

Visitor from feministing.org. I will probably stick around since I am in serious search of a gaming community that DOESN'T have two out of every three posts dedicated to rating female character's anatomy.

The creators of the video have a plethora on them on YouTube...wonderful.

You're certainly welcome here - we're trying to get our message boards more active as well. And I don't believe we'll ever fall into the habit of rating anatomies.

Gotta be careful with blanket statement! Sexism in ALL video games? Or just video games that specifically focus on and emphasizing sexy women? Because all ten of those games were either A) Jokes (Stretch Panic, the Guy game) or B) Meant to display overly sexualized images.

I guess the response would be "Less skinny white girls with massive breasts and more mixed race girls with flat chests"? If that's the case, no problem. But the same way you're rarely going to see a flat chested hero in an action movie, you will not see the main character of an action/fighting game (a romantic idea in itself) without overly accented features. Good example of realism: the upcoming Heavy Rain, or the few year old game Indigo Prophecy. Both STAR regular, "average" women, and in Indigo Prophecy she's an ass kicker too.

The Yang,

Joe

What I meant by feminists being proved right is that sexism does in fact have a presence in video games. No, not every game is sexist...give Ari's review of Legend of Dragoon (http://www.riotgamer.org/ligthe-legend-of-dragoonl-ig-dragons-inc-) a read. I don't so much mean it as a blanket statement. No, sexism isn't a factor in all video games nor is it always worse than in other visual media. It is, however, a pretty dominant theme in video games (and other media), as is racism or race exclusion and LGBT exclusion, etc. I don't think of video games as terrible overall. A sentiment which I tried to convey in Queering Pop Culture (http://www.riotgamer.org/queering-pop-culture-with-video-games-fe). Video games don't exist in a bubble and I realize that. They reflect existing hegemonies and systems of oppression and privilege and designers employ existing stereotypes and prejudices in their creation. Change is also a process and progress is a worthwhile endeavor. So while it may not be true that all video games are sexist, racist, and/or heterosexist and while the images and depictions in video games may not create but rather reflect existing hegemonies and stereotypes, progress is a goal made in good faith. A large part of progress is the process of calling out those things which could use the change.
